If your Sponsor is not registered at American Martyrs Parish and they still need to complete their verification form through their parish, have them download it here by using the button on the right side of this page under the Parish Service Form. Their parish will mail it to American Martyrs once it is completed and sealed by the parish. Please have your sponsor hand these forms to their parish so that we receive them no later than April 15th. They can also bring these forms (after their parish has filled out the necessary information) with them to class if that is more convenient for them.

Lesson 6: MORALITY (Part 2)

3/1/2020

This month, Candidates will explore morality as it pertains to our Catholic faith and teaching. We will read about prudence, virtue, and moral decision-making. We will recognize that we each have a conscience and must actively form it as we use it to guide our decisions. It is through the love and Grace of God, coupled with our own pursuit of knowledge of right and wrong and good and evil, that we can achieve this. Candidates are encouraged to commit themselves to learning why the guidelines and moral teachings of our Church exist.

Please read the assigned sections in the YouCat, read the additional article, and answer the Parent and Teen reflection prompts. Remember to bring a hard copy of the reflection responses to our Sealed. 2 Session 6 on Sunday, March 1, 2020 in O'Donnell Hall at 3:30pm. Teens are invited to come 10 minutes early to socialize prior to class.

Lesson 4: Sacraments of Service- Matrimony and Holy Orders (Vocations)

1/26/2020

In the months of January, Candidates will explore the two Sacraments of Service. Teens will discover that a vocation is different from a job or a career; it is a specific and unique call from God that is to be lived out. Together, we will look at two very distinct vocations that are Sacraments of the Church. Through these vocations, we are called to live our lives, united in Christ, for others. We are called to service through love in the Sacraments of Matrimony and Holy Orders.

Please read the assigned sections in the YouCat, read the additional article, and complete the parent and teen reflection. Remember to bring a hard copy of the reflections with you to the next Sealed. Session, Sunday January 26, 2020 in O'Donnell Hall at 3:30pm. Show up 15 minutes early to enjoy snacks, time to socialize, and to check in!

Lesson 2: Sacraments of Initiation

10/6/2019

This is a video made by a teen for teens about the Sacraments of initiation. Enjoy :)
This month, Candidates will explore the three Sacraments of Initiation. We remember that through Baptism and Confirmation we belong to Christ, are identified with him and are gifted constantly by his Spirit in community and in our church. We receive the Eucharist to deepen our lifelong initiation into Christ’s life, death, and Resurrection. When we meet this month, we will focus specifically on how receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation will initiate you as full members of the Church.

Please read the assigned sections in the YouCat,  respond to the parent and teen reflection, and bring a printed version of the response to your Core member to next session. Remember to have this all completed by the next Sealed. 2 Session 2 on Sunday, October 6, 2019 in O'Donnell Hall at 3:30pm.  Come 10 minutes early to socialize, get snacks, check in!

Lesson 5: Social Justice- Serving our Neighbor

2/11/2018

This month we will have three guest speakers from three various service organizations who will join us to speak about social justice, our call to live our faith in love and service, and different ways that you can get involved through amazing service opportunities!

Please note that as you prepare for class this month, we ask you to think about and pray about how you are asked to prepare and what you are asked to contribute at the next class. Please do the following before and bring the following to class on February 11:
  1. Watch/listen to the video above to learn about the 7 themes in Catholic Social Teaching
  2. Bring socks to contribute to our sock drive!
  3. Bring $1, $5,  $10....any amount that you would like to contribute to the collection at Mass!

On February 11, we hope to connect our teens to the neighbor that lives on other continents, in other cities, and the neighbor that sits next to them in church! These three ways of preparing and giving help us to engage in service in very real and practical ways before we hear about other relational ways to get involved in living out our faith! See you in O'Donnell Hall on February 11 at 3:15pm for check in!
